Dr. Dong Kil Shin comes from a long line of oriental medicine doctors in his family. His grandfather was a renowned practitioner in acupuncture and herbs in Korea. His father is also currently practicing a leading role in the acupuncture society as president of the Korean Acupuncture and Moxibustion Association. Dr. Shin's training in oriental medicine started from family tradition from his grandfather when he was seven years old. The rigorous training and internship under his grandfather and further intensive practice in his father's clinic made him very knowledgeable in acupuncture.

In the United States , he studied at the Royal University of Oriental Medicin e and received his M.S. at Samra University of Oriental Medicine and his Ph.D. at Yuin University, School of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine. In addition, Dr. Shin studied at the Beijing College of Acupuncture and Orthopedics.
